Abios Gaming

Abios Gaming was founded on August 21st, 2013 in Stockholm, Sweden.
Abios is the leading calendar and go-to place for eSports for gamers. Abios provides listed tournaments and competitions worldwide involving millions players and viewers. I joined the Abios team in March 2015 as the Community Manager and the North American Abios Gaming Representative. My responsibilities change depending on our needs and the company's demands and expectations.

Abios Overview

Abios Gaming was founded in 2013 by a group of students and gamers in Stockholm, Sweden. The intention was to facilitate and structure the following of esports. Abios organized the esports scene, and wrapped it in an appealing design, which was the new way to follow esports. Every day, the product is being improved in accordance to the company mission: To facilitate the following of esports for every gamer.

The problem was that esports was the hardest sport to follow. Instead of using a calendar, gamers had to regularly go to Twitch in order to assure themselves that they were not missing out on anything. The founding students at Abios sat down with pen and paper to draw their ultimate esports platform. A few months later, in August 2013, www.abiosgaming.com was born. Back then, only four games were considered esports and we all have witnessed the development of the scene since.

Abios is an acronym for the three founders initial letters (Anton, Birger, Oskar). Abios was launched during their last years at Stockholm School of Economics and the Royal Institute of Technology. Being students at northern Europe’s top schools, they had little time and little money but a big place in their hearts and passion for esports nevertheless. Thus, the Abios Company was bootstrapped and built on coffee money in company terms. The reason for naming the company Abios was not just for the attractive nature of the name, but would also lay ground for the founding team’s vision of Abios becoming recognized as one the world’s top and most innovative gaming companies.

In spring 2014, school was over and Abios could finally grow. The second version of the site was built during the summer and Abios 2.0 was released in August 2014, with completely new design and additional games covered. At about the same time, Abios was the #1 pick of over 200 applying start-ups in Stockholm to be accepted to the Bonnier Accelerator program. Bonnier Group is one of Sweden’s largest Media houses and their program is intended to help start-ups grow and reach the next level. The program resulted with an impressed investor jury at Bonnier who decided to invest.

Since then Abios has grown to its current team of 13 passionate gamers and new innovative products are being rolled out continually. The community has received the Google chrome and Firefox Extensions with great enthusiasm. Soon to come are apps for Android and IOS are also on the way. The Abios platform will provide gamers with an entirely customized esports following. Users are able to get notifications wherever they are, on the computer and on their phone, of exactly what they want. By setting favorite games, players, teams, streamers and tournaments, they never again have to miss out on anything within esports.

Stockholm, Sweden –May 28th, 2015 – Esports calendar Abios today announced the launch of “Albios 3.0”, its third iteration, announcing that it had been improved to “unmask” the unsung heroes of gaming while making it even easier to follow online tournaments.

“We are still very much in a process of growth,” said a spokesman for Abios. “We’re rolling out upgrades continually, getting individualized notifications to our users whether on computer or phone—they set who they want to follow, and our system notes them. We’re passionate about making it super-easy to follow esports, which is growing into a global game—so it needs a global calendar.”

Abios Gaming has come along in leaps and strides since its formation in 2013. Originally put together by three students at the Stockholm School of Economics and the Royal Institute of Technology in order to facilitate an easy way to access esports, the company has since grown—hence the need to relaunch with new features.

Albios has been recognized by Bonnier Group, one of Sweden’s most prominent leaders in media, and was picked as #1 in their Bonnier Accelerator Program, opening up extra investment.
